Windows XP is the most nostalgic for me but 95 is my favorite. It just feels exactly akin to one’s first steps into new world of advanced and optimistic technical achievement. So tranquil and inviting. I just wish I could submerge into that sound like i am walking into a pool.

The first entry was definitely cursed indeed. Especially considering that Microsoft Anna (the voice at 1:45 was replaced with Microsoft David in Build 7997). It is possible to get this voice back on modern Windows versions thanks to a 3rd party solution that acts as a sort of patch.

There is something I am very curious about: BioShock: Infinite is a game, where the minimum operating system requirement is Windows Vista, which means that it cannot be run in Windows XP, but it can be run in Windows Longhorn build 6.0.4093, which is the very last pre-reset version? As you know, pre-reset means that it is based on Windows XP.

Matthew also composed NT 5.0 Beta's startup sound. Yes, that one which starts out really loud according to quite a few fella here, and ends up with a really sweet, techie melody. Some may not know how I know that, but I found the composer's name of that startup sound tagged with the original file while trying out the NT 5.0 Beta's.

something I noticed in this build is that this is the placeholder video used in 'Welcome to Windows 98' program, which was also used as a placeholder for Windows Millennium's Welcome program. I don't know what is the source of that 24 second sample of the "History of Media" 3D Animation, but I did find what music the animation used: Bay of Plenty (Underscore) by Art Phillips. Really would love to see the full version of that placeholder video, if it exists on the web.

I love XP startup sound, it wasn't the first SO I had, but I think it's the most nostalgic and wholesome. I also love the Windws 98 one, which was the fist OS I used and it brings me a lot of memories from my childhood. Windows 95 is beautiful too and despite not being part of my childhood I feel some connection with it, Brian Eno was a genius.

I saw Windows Vista still being used along with Windows 8.1 where i work.
